Un señor se me acercó y muy amablemente me preguntó que si lo podía escuchar. Este buen hombre tiene 69 años y tiene 6 años en lista de espera, por parte de Inagel, (creo que se llama así), un instituto encargado de geriatría.
An older man came to me and very sweetly asked me if I could listen to him. This good man is 69 years old and for 6 years he has been on the waiting list for Inagel, (I think that’s the name), a geriartric institute.
Desde el año 2000 ha estado visitando el hospital, le dan citas y más citas y solo le expresan que debe ” esperar “. El se vino de Cabimas porque le dijeron que en Caracas lo podían ayudar pero nada aún. Duerme en las calles, no tiene familia aquí y se encuentra algo desesperado.
He has been visiting the hospital since 2000 and they give him appointment after appointment and they only tell him he has to “wait.” He came from Cabimas because he was told he could get help in Caracas. He sleeps on the streets, he has no family here and he´s really desperate.
Me mostró sus papeles, las consultas y no ha conseguido respuesta alguna. Sufre de la próstata y requiere ser operado. El desea ser aceptado en alguna casa hogar porque no tiene donde vivir. Le indiqué lo que podía hacer, más o menos, porque yo no tengo ningún contacto gubernamenteal y si alguien del gobierno me lée, por favor, ayuden a este caballero. Se llama Carmelo Donaire.
He showed me his papaers, his appointments but he hasn’t gotten an answer yet. He needs to get a surgery because he has problems with his prostate. He would like to get a spot at a home because he has no place to live. I tried to tell him what to do but I don’t have government contacts so if anybody from the government reads this, plese, help this gentleman. His name is Carmelo Donaire.
Hoy habían en Caracas como 4 protestas de las cuales escuché y decidí irme a Petare. Me acerqué pero llegué algo tarde. Sin embargo tengo muchas cosas que mostrar.
Today there were like 4 scheduled protests that I heard about and I decided to go to the one in Petare. I got there but I was late. Nevertheless, I have a lot to show.
La protesta era por la inseguridad ya que ayer mataron a un hombre frente a un colegio. Todo esto visto por los niños y los delincuentes se escaparon, como si nada… Yo pienso que la mejor encuesta es la que se realiza en la calle hablando con la gente, escuchando en persona lo que dicen, como viven y que se escucha de la situación del país.
The protest in Petare was about lack of safety because yesterday a man was killed in front of a school. All witnessed by children and the criminals ran away like nothing… I think that the best survey is the one you do on the streets talking to people, listening to what they have to say, the way they live and what you hear about the country’s situation.
Me detuve al escuchar a dos chavistas hablando pestes del alcalde del Municipio Sucre. Estaban viendo la pancarta gigante que observan en la foto. Decía uno: Rosales puede ganarle, la cosa está muy mal. Y yo le pregunto: “¿usted es chavista?” Y me dice: “sí”. Y yo le respondo: “Si todo anda mal ¿por qué sigues siendo chavista? Y me dice: “Yo soy chavista pero la culpa de todo la tiene los que lo acompañan. Él no es malo.” Le trato de explicar que su presidente sabe todo lo que ocurre en el país y como jefe de todo, es el responsable… Y el señor me dice: “Lo sé y me provoca llorar, señora. Yo soy chavista y sé que puede perder. Luego me estrechó la mano muy fuerte y me dijo, se me paran los pelos, “Porque soy chavista de corazón y todo, está mal… Somos venezolanos…” Me sentí reconfortada en saber que podemos hablar sin insultos, sin ningún tipo de agresión… Él me dijo bajito: “Yo era adeco, ahora soy chavista. Pero Rosales, puede ganarle…”
I stopped to listen to two chavistas talking badly about the Mayor of Sucre State. They were looking at the huge banner I show below. One said: “Rosales can win, things are really bad.” So I ask him: Are you chavista?” And he says: “Yes” so I say: “If everything is so bad, why are you still chavista?” I am chavista but the guilty ones are the ones he has next to him. He’s not bad.” So I try to explain to him that his president knows everything that’s going on and as the president, he is responsible. So he tells me: “I know, lady and I feel like crying. I am chavista and I know he can lose.” Then he shook my hand very tight and said to me: Because I am chavista at heart and everything, it’s not right. We are all Venezuelans. I felt at peace because we could talk without insults or any type of aggresion… Then he said quietly: “I was Adeco (AD, another political party) before, now I am chavista but Rosales can win…”
Cuando llegué al sitio de la protesta, ya había culminado y las personas se habían retirado pero estaban aun los muchachos de CAMBIO. Conversé con ellos. También estaba la gente de RADAR DE LOS BARRIOS, quienes no pertenecen a ningún partido político, solo luchan por su comunidad.
When I arrived at the area of the protest, it had ended already and people had already left but there were some young men, part of CAMBIO (CHANGE). I spoke with them. There were also some people from the RADAR OF THE BARRIOS who don’t belong to any political party and only fight for their communities.
Mis felicitaciones a todos ellos que realizan trabajo social y sobre todo a CAMBIO, quienes son jóvenes preocupados por su país y están por todos lados, llevando su mensaje. Iré colocando lo que conseguí en ese populoso sector de PETARE que tiene al peor Alcalde de Venezuela… tan incapaz. Se respira desidia, abandono y sobre todo CAOS… Si quieres hacer lo que quieres, ve a Petare. Si quieres ser un infractor, ve a Petare… Si quieres ver a un pueblo sin ley, visite a Petare…
Congratulations to all those young people in social work and specially the ones from CAMBIO who are young people worried about their country and they’re everywhere, bringing their message. I’m going to show you what I found in that very busy area of PETARE with the worst Mayor in the country… so negligent. You can breath indolence, abandonment, and specially chaos… If you want to do whatever you want, move to Petare. If you want to break the law, move to Petare… If you want to see a town without laws, visit Petare.
